Just took a taxi back from Google Amsterdam to the Marriott. I just happened to catch a taxi from the rank from a company called "taxi-e". The coolest taxi company ever.
Firstly, their taxis are Nissan Leaf electric cars - they have a range of 130 kms and there are 4 fast charging units in Amsterdam, which allows them to charge fully in 20 mins (as the driver grabs a cup of coffee). The cars are great for city driving and comfortable.
However, what was really cool, was that the driver offered me free wifi in the cab. The cars have a wifi connection from Vodafone. I asked the driver about it and he immediately pointed out the wifi password on the cab and said it was free. He mentioned that many passengers use it, "partcicularly the business guys going from the airport into the City". He then astounded me - he said "would you like to borrow the Samsung Tab?". Apparently, he has a table for passengers to use, whilst they are in the cab, which is already set up and connected to the wifi! How cool is that.....
Check out www.taxi-e.nl
Here's my rather crude photo, snapped on my iPhone. I should have wrote this blog in the cab on hsi tab, but alas my journey was too short and I was too fascinated, talking to the driver...
The thing you could say about those taxi's are really in orbit. Someday wifi taxis would be possible.
